The events took place in Orange County, California, and Riverside, California, the homes of Greg Laurie’s Harvest Christian Fellowship church campuses. A very special speaking opportunity! GIRL TALK 2011 – the brain child of Cathe Laurie and the wonderful women’s ministry team at HCF – answered the question, “wondering what to do this summer?”

Cathe Laurie is director of the women’s ministry at Harvest Christian Fellowship and teaches in the Women’s Bible Fellowship at Harvest. Cathe’s women’s ministry website is titled Virtue For Women highlighting Proverbs 31:10 — “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.”

Catherine was invited to speak to a vibrant and growing group of women’s ministry leaders at Trinity Bible Church in Phoenix, Arizona – a very special speaking opportunity. LIFT – Leaders In Fellowship Together – sets as its mission to equip and encourage leaders in women’s ministry in the greater Phoenix area with valley meetings in host churches four times a year, an annual day of prayer, specialized seminars and workshops, and networking opportunities. Their core values are prayer, integrity, support and affirmation in ministry, and respect for diversity.

Sandy Boetteger is Director of LIFT. Sandy praises God for including her in His work when He wrote I Cor. 1:26, “Not many … wise are chosen.” It is not out of low self-esteem, but from recognition that without Him she can do nothing. Since accepting Jesus as her Savior at the age of seven, every calling on her life has been a step of faith, including her position on the LIFT Team. Five years ago, after several years as a volunteer leader at Trinity Bible Church, Phoenix, she joined the staff as Director of Women’s Ministry. Aside from her personal roles as wife, mother of two, and grandmother of six, ministry to women has been the most rewarding adventure. She says, “I am humbled that God would call me, trust me, and choose to use me in blessing others. It is with great excitement that I choose to cooperate with God in helping ‘encourage and equip’ other women’s ministry leaders.”

Sandy is committed to leadership. “We can all benefit from experiences our peers have, and at LIFT we have opportunity to share with each other. There is just nothing so exciting as seeing lives changed by Him.” And to this day, I have to say that I just love being involved in ministry with the Lord and watching Him change someone’s life.

Paul encourages us in these words the power of discipleship and investing in the lives of others with the teachings of Jesus. It’s been said that if you give a man a fish, you’ve fed him for today. But if you teach a man to fish then you’ve fed him for a lifetime. My prayer for you today is that you will realize the amazing and incredible opportunity you have to impact others in their relationship with the Lord. I have been involved in women’s ministries for many years and have been a director of women’s ministries for more than 10 years. And I can tell you that God is stirring in the hearts of women worldwide. Women are hungry to know the Lord, and are thirsty for His Word like never before.’But many women have no idea how to spend quiet time alone with the Lord. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 12:4 – 6, “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons.” When I think about Paul’s words I see that gifts lead to ministries and ministries lead to effects. Different ministries have different effects. And it is God Himself through the power of the Holy Spirit, who produces the gifts, the ministries, and the effects. ~ Catherine

God’s Power & God’s Provision

You might wonder, “Catherine, how are you able to do so many things in Quiet Time Ministries – writing books, producing DVDs, publishing the Enriching Your Quiet Time magazine, designing a website, sending out newsletters, and speaking at retreats and conferences?” There’s a two-fold answer to that – God’s power and God’s provision! God gives the power to accomplish ministry for His glory!! Paul said in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” God provides everything we need for Quiet Time Ministries to flourish. We have a team of men and women who give financially, both monthly and one-time gifts – they join together with us to impact hundreds of thousands of people with the message of Christ. In God’s economy, we are literally ministering together and share in the amazing eternal fruit of Quiet Time Ministries. Paul also enjoyed this team concept of ministry – here’s what he said to the Philippian Church – “you sent a gift more than once for my needs”. He encouraged the Philippians to continue giving to his ministry when he said in Philippians 4:17, “Not that I see the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases to your account.” Do you hear the ripple effect in that statement – every time they gave to his ministry, they shared in its effect. Then, he pointed out the fruit of such giving in Philippians 4:19, “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

The Quiet Time Notebook™ is an idea God gave me about 25 years ago when I was on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ. I wanted something that would keep everything organized in my quiet time. I was writing out prayers and prayer requests in one notebook. I used another notebook as a journal and another for Bible study. I thought: why not put everything together in one notebook. So I looked in the Christian bookstore to see if there was something like that available, but there wasn’t. So I just made one for myself. And that was the beginning of The Quiet Time Notebook™ now published by Quiet Time Ministries Press and available for you to use in your own quiet time. ~ Catherine

Everything comes out of time with the Lord. Many years ago, I heard someone say “You be responsible for the depth of your ministry, and let God be responsible for the breadth of your ministry.” And so, my challenge to you is to go deep with God. Invest in your relationship with Him and make a commitment to spend time with Him every day. The Quiet Time Notebook™ can help you carry out that commitment. Eight years ago you spoke at EVBC [East Valley Bible Church] in Gilbert AZ. I sat in the front row and was in awe of your DANCE with the LORD. I was a divorced single mother of 2 with a newly justified heart who was HUNGRY for the intimate LOVE that Christ had to offer. Your Journaling resources sparked what is now and has been a blazing fire of passion that has been burning deep within me. In 2005 (i think?) we met again at Scottsdale Bible Church as I sat front and center again in a workshop. It was so sweet KNOW that everything you said was TRUE after seeing God transform me and my life for 3 solid years of having QT [quiet time] with the LORD. Two years ago he moved us to California and has recently called me to teach the women at our Church how to “Draw Near” to God!

I prayed for you today, thanking God for the Passion & Ministry He used to draw me to himself! Please pray for me, that in one hour I would ENCOURAGE the women of our church the way you ENCOURAGED ME! My testimony is online and I would like you to hear it. They had to cut out some due to lack of time (its 5-7 min) but I think you will be encouraged!

I hope you will remember me when you ever find yourself wondering if what you are doing is making a difference for the kingdom! IT IS my friend…it certainly is so keep it up!

It was Tuesday, April 16, 2002, 1:00p.m. Johnny Mann, twice Grammy Award winner, came through the doors of The Bakery Recording Studios, Burbank, California, with only one thing on his mind. Quiet Time. Conversations halted. Heads turned. All eyes focused on the musical legend, a man who commanded respect for his past accomplishments – and his future vision. Johnny Mann came to the Lord during Bible studies while in production on his beloved CBS-TV series, Stand Up And Cheer from 1971 to 1973. And his faith has been written as an easygoing smile on his handsome face ever since. But today, his mind is centered on the recording of a brand new composition – Quiet Time to headline his Quiet Time CD with the Johnny Mann Singers.

Fast forward a few decades or so from his start in Hollywood arranging scores for seven full-length motion pictures for Warner Brothers, Twentieth Century Fox and Columbia Studios, to his wife’s volunteer church activities near their California desert home in 1999. Betty Mann, the director of Friendship Link, became fast friends with Catherine Martin, the new Director of Women’s Ministries at Southwest Community Church in Indian Wells, California, and not coincidentally Founder of Quiet Time Ministries. It wasn’t long before the term quiet time began bouncing around inside the musically active mind of Johnny Mann. The wonderful result – The Quiet Time Song.

Debbie fondly describes the show as a cross between Focus on the Family and Oprah! In April of 2008, Debbie and her husband built a studio in their home and Debbie began broadcasting the talk show on the internet.

Week Four: Silence fell over the crowd with a pause in the ceremony. At that precise moment Jesus stood and cried out, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water." (John 7:37-38). We know from the words of John that Jesus was speaking about the work of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of men and women. Oh, what a day it is when the Holy Spirit catches a heart on fire and causes the rivers of living water to flow. In Wales those rivers flowed powerfully through one young man, Evan Roberts, when he took a public prayer for many and applied it personally to himself. He ran to the front of a gathering that ended with the prayer "Lord, bend us!" and cried out "Lord, bend me!" At that very moment, Roberts was filled with a desire to go the length and breadth of Wales to tell others about Christ. Oh how the rivers of revival flowed by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is said of the years of 1904-1905 that all of Wales was like one gigantic prayer meeting. Can you imagine such a thing happening in your neighborhood, in your city, in your country? Friend, it only takes a spark to get the fires of revival going and may it begin with you and me! In this last week in Set My Heart On Fire we are going to look together at what the Holy Spirit wants to do in and through simple men and women who surrender themselves to Him. Oh it’s a beautiful thing to watch the sail set in such a way that a ship runs before the wind. May it be so with us! May He set our hearts on fire by the power of His Spirit and bring about a revival of such immense proportions that we will stand in awe and reverence at what God has done. Let’s pray together, Lord, set our hearts on fire!

Week Three: The impossible situation. Most of us know what it’s like to be in a place where there is seemingly no way out and no answer to our circumstance. And our response is often "I just can’t do it anymore, It’s impossible!, or I can’t do that." Have you ever felt that way? If you have, then you can know that you are right where the Lord wants you. In fact, our weaknesses, inadequacies, and the impossibilities qualify us for a great demonstration of God’s power in our lives. Paul, the apostle, experienced God’s power in the midst of his own suffering. He had a thorn in the flesh, as he called it, so devastating to him that he begged God three times to remove it. The Lord answered Paul with these words, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV). Paul learned that weakness and impossibilities were not a negative, but a positive in God’s economy and he concluded, "…when I am weak, then I am strong" (2 Corinthians 12:10 NIV). And so, when you are faced with that impossible situation, get ready for God to do something powerful. He is taking you to a new and deeper place in your relationship with Him. You are going to see His great and mighty indwelling strength—the power of the Holy Spirit. Then, you will say, "I can’t, but He can!" This week, we are going to continue our 30-Day Journey by looking at the power of the Holy Spirit—why we need His power and how we experience His power in our own lives. Let’s continue to pray together, Lord, set my heart on fire!

Week Two: Many years ago when I lived in San Diego, California, there was a powerful windstorm. The wind was blowing so hard that the water in our swimming pool was lapping up over the edge. I looked at our table by the pool and observed the edges of the umbrella flapping wildly from the force of the wind. And then a great gust of wind blew through our back yard and caused that umbrella to lift in the air with such strength that the table lifted off the ground and then came crashing back down. I knew that if I did not take immediate action that table was going to end up in the pool. I ran outside just as another gust of wind hit the table with great force. I literally grabbed the table and the umbrella just as it was about to go flying into our pool. I was hanging on to it for dear life, feeling the full force of a wind that wanted to take it in another direction. I won the battle for the moment, but just barely preserved our furniture. The point is this: there is something very powerful that happens when the wind begins to blow. Things get moved around in the direction of the wind. And so it is for you and me. When the wind of the Holy Spirit moves through your life, you are going to experience change. The Spirit-filled life is not about imitation but transformation. The old becomes brand new—in fact, you might think about the whole idea of a metamorphosis—the best picture of this I know of is the caterpillar becoming an amazingly beautiful monarch butterfly. In our case, we don’t want to hold on to our old ways, but we want to set our sails to catch the powerful move of the Holy Spirit so He can make us who He wants us to be and take us in the direction of God’s ways and purposes. This week we are going to see what the Holy Spirit wants to do in our lives. And oh, friends, these are such powerful truths. I cannot wait to think together with you about the ways we experience the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. And more than that, Lynne, Jamie, and I are so excited to discuss these powerful truths with you on the radio.

Week One: Something I’ve noticed about God as I have walked with Him is that He always has something new to say to me from the Bible, sometimes contained in a verse I have known for years. And He often does the unexpected, especially in the times when I thought there was no answer to my situation. I think that’s the way it must have been for the disciples as they walked and talked with Jesus for three years. Just when they might be ready to think one way, the tide would turn with something Jesus said or did. Such was the case as Jesus was nearing the day when He knew He would soon be with His Father. He told His beloved disciples, "But now I am going to him who sent me…" (John 16:5). Perhaps reading their faces and seeing even deeper, into their hearts, He then said, “But because I have said these things, sorrow has filled your hearts” (John 16:6). And now, Jesus gives them what I have called good news on a sad day. Surprising words for sorrowful hearts. In the midst of their grief,the Lord gives them one of His best promises: "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you." (John 16:7). Oh friends, what incredible words we have from Jesus as He tells us the advantage of the One, the Helper, coming to us. Who is this promised One? He is the Holy Spirit and He is one of the greatest gifts you will ever receive. This week we are going to take a journey into the Person and Works of the Holy Spirit. Why is it that so many never talk about the Holy Spirit? I believe it is simply because they have never ventured out to discover who He is and what He does. And so, dear friends, let’s travel together into the land of this good news from Jesus – the promised Holy Spirit.

Introduction Week: Have you ever watched a sailboat move effortlessly on the water as the wind catches its sails? Can you imagine what it would be like to have the wind catch the sails of your life, enabling you to sail on the ocean of God’s love, and move you in the direction of God’s plans and purposes? This week we begin the adventure of Set My Heart On Fire – Experience The Power Of The Holy Spirit. And oh, what an adventure it is, for when we talk about the Spirit of God, we are entering into the land of God’s person, power, and presence. As we engage in this 30-Day Journey together, I am convinced that our lives will never be the same. How can we get the most out of this adventure? Begin with a time, a place, and a plan. I want to encourage you to set aside a time and place to spend quiet time with the Lord each day. I like the mornings the best. I get up early, brew a steaming cup of coffee, and sit in my family room, where I like to spend time with the Lord. In my family room, my quiet place with the Lord, I have my Bible, my quiet time notebook, and other resources for my quiet time. For our adventure together, my plan for my quiet time for the next 30 days will be Set My Heart On Fire.

You will notice that there is a place for you to write a letter to the Lord at the end of Day 1. This is one of my favorite part’s of every study I write because I just love to see what God does in our lives as we study His Word. At the end of our 30 days, we will read this letter and rejoice together at all we have experienced with our Lord.
